The Elusive Morel Mushroom
The story behind our hand-painted morel mug and the quiet magic of the hunt.

I'll be honest - the first time I went morel hunting on my own, I came home with nothing but a couple really nice acorns that I found and a cool pinecone. Not a single mushroom though. Just me, wandering through the woods so slowly, staring at the ground and probably walking right past a bunch of them without even noticing.
They were probably right there. Brown, lumpy, and blending in perfectly with the forest floor like they wanted to be mistaken for dead leaves. And I just.. didn't see them.
That's the thing about morels - they don't want to be found.
They pop up for such a short window in the middle of spring, sometimes only a day or two and you'll only find them if another critter doesn't get them first. One day, the ground looks totally empty, and the next – suddenly they're there tucked into the base of old trees hiding long branches are sitting quietly in the moss like they've been there all along. Even when you do find them, it's not like you're tumbling on huge patches – the most I've ever seen in one spot is maybe four.
If you don't know what you're looking for you can wonder for hours and come home with nothing but muddy boots.
But when you do spot one? It honestly feels like a forest let you in on something really special.
That quiet, slow kind of searching – where you start focusing so hard on every little detail and just start seeing the whole forest differently – that's exactly the feeling behind our hand painted morel mug. The mushrooms are imperfect in the best way: slightly wobbly honeycomb, a stem that leans just a bit and painted by someone who is clearly thinking about damp mornings, mossy ground, and the moment of "wait…is that one?"
Morel season is just around the corner, and I'm so excited to be rummaging through the forest again in search of these elusive beauties.
I wanted this mug to feel like it has a bit of a story behind it.
I like to think it's for the people who know the hunt is part of the treasure.
